”So the Lord became angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned from the Lord God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he did not keep what the Lord had commanded.“ ‭‭I Kings‬ ‭11‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

In studying the life of Solomon, it is clear that knowing the truth does not mean that one will be obedient to such truth.   Sadly, Solomon failed to be obedient despite the unmatched wisdom he received from God (I Kings 3:12).

The consequences of Solomon’s sins should serve as a reminder that we should not become arrogant or complacent when it comes to our sin (I Corinthians 10:12-13).  Instead, we should acknowledge that God‘s ways are best for us, and walk in His truth.

Possessing wisdom but failing to walk in such wisdom is like having the keys to a treasure-filled chest that we decide not to open.  Instead of going down the destructive path chosen by Solomon, let’s demonstrate obedience and enjoy the riches that God has in store for us (Ephesians 2:10).
