"God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24 NKJV
So there our Lord Jesus was, sitting at a well talking to a Samaritan woman about worship. Jesus explained to the woman, that God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. If you ever wondered how to worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus says it in this passage. Jesus uses the word “MUST” meaning that if we are going to worship; these criteria are obligated or should be met. Worshiping in the Spirit means genuinely worshiping with our whole hearts and our whole beings; also worshiping in the Holy Spirit whom we have welcomed in our hearts (2 Timothy 1:14).
Basically, do not be like the Pharisees who was all about appearing holy but in reality they empty shells, fake worshipers (Isaiah 29:13). Worshiping in truth means that we are to worship God in the truths of the Bible. For example, “Jesus loves me yes I know for the Bible tells me so.” These song lyrics are truthful. The Bible tells us multiple times that Jesus loves us (John 13:34-35). So, when we sing this song, worshiping God, we are worshiping in truth. Therefore, when we worship our Lord, we MUST worship in the Holy Spirit that lives in us genuinely from the heart for all that He has done according to the Bible. Amen.
