Now it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, that Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison.
 (2 Kings 25:27)

The last few verses of 2 Kings give us a ray of hope. King Jehoiachin, is released by Nebuchadnezzar's son from prison after 37 years. The false prophet Hananiah said he would be set free and return to Judah in a few years. (Jeremiah 28). He is given a more prominent seat, he is able to exchange his prison clothes and is allowed to eat at the king's table. Both being clothed in new garments and eating at the table of the king are reflected in our future as well.

This is a reminder that God will look after His people. The book of 2 Kings begins with Elijah being carried off to heaven, while it ends with Judah being carried off to Babylon. God is not through with this special people, Israel. He is not through with us either.
