Sunday Devo -April 23, 2023

"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”  (‭‭James‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Pride and humility are clearly at odds with one another. Pride can lead to damaged relationships, and, in a Christian’s life, the justification of sinful behavior. Humility, on the other hand, can restore relationships, and is both acknowledged and rewarded by our Creator.

Next time you find yourself being prideful, I encourage you to meditate on the following verse: “Surely He scorns the scornful, But gives grace to the humble” (Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭34‬ ‭NKJV‬‬).
 
It’s important for us to remember that God loves a humble and contrite spirit (Isaiah 66:2).
