Sunday Devo -January 7, 2024

Philippians 3:13, 14 "I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

At the beginning of this new year, we have the opportunity to renew our mindset. Paul reminds us that we have the choice to either keep looking back at what once was and could have been, or to look forward in faith to what God has for us in Jesus.

It has been said that there are two types of people in this world, some are like vultures and others like hummingbirds. They both fly around, often, coexisting in the same areas. All vultures see is rotting meat, because that is what they look for. They thrive on that diet. But hummingbirds ignore the smelly flesh of dead animals. Instead, they look for the colorful blossoms and the sweet nectar of desert plants. The vultures live on what was, living on the past, looking for anything they can devour that they know has no future. They fill themselves with what is dead and gone. But hummingbirds live on what is, they seek new life. They fill themselves with the freshness of abundant life. Each bird finds what it is looking for. And the same is true for us. Both the decay and the sweetness will be there, side-by-side in 2024.
