“He has shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” Micah 6:8 KJV

I love this verse, and the worship hymn derived from the same. The things that are
good, and required, are portrayed in a simple and basic manner. No need for graduate
theological studies to understand this portion of Scripture!
We are to do justly, which implies, doing what is right. Acting in a manner that is fair, lawful, and striving for righteousness.
We are to love mercy- not only God’s mercy toward us, but to have mercy, patience, and a forgiving heart towards others.
And we are to walk humbly- realizing God’s sovereign nature, His role in creating all things, and our dependence on Him.
Although the verse may be simple, applying it to our lives, may not be- due to our selfish and sinful tendencies. It is through the power of the Holy Spirit that we would be able to walk humbly, do justly, and love mercy.
